The Hedgehoppers R/C Flying Club is an Academy Of Model Aeronautics (AMA) chartered club. Membership in the AMA is not required for membership in the Hedgehoppers, but AMA membership is required to fly. AMA membership provides insurance for you, the Hedgehoppers and our site owners in the event of an accident.

Where and When:

Our flying field is located on Midway Orchards between Bangor and Lawrence Michigan, on CR215.  Club meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. During the warmer months (May - September), they are held at the Club field.  The indoor meetings (October - April) are held at various locations and usually begin at 7:00 PM.

Who we are:

Hedgehoppers R/C Flying Club members are people from all walks of life and participate in all types of flying. These include, but are not limited to, sport planes, jets, electric, scale, giant scale, fun fly, pylon racing.  Wednesday Evenings are one of the most active flying nights.  We have sponsored many events over the years, including Float Flys, Try-N-Fly Days, New Years Day Frost Flys and Club Picnics for members and invited guests.  Events require the help of many members, so please don’t hesitate to volunteer. It’s a great way to meet other members and maybe learn a thing or two.

Flight Training:

The Hedgehoppers R/C Flying Club does not have a structured flight instruction program in effect at this time, but there are many experienced pilots who are willing to help new members get started. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, but please respect the wishes of those who don’t wish to assist new pilots. Do not attempt to fly without an experienced pilot at your side. Flying is not as easy as it looks. A model aircraft can become a lethal weapon if it gets out of control. When you crash - and all pilots have experienced this - try not to become discouraged. Most unplanned encounters with the ground are not usually as bad as they appear and your modeling skills will be improved as you put the pieces back together.

Spectators and Guests:

Spectators and guests are always welcome.  Flying guests must always be accompanied by a club member and must be a member of the AMA or an AMA recognized international organization.   Guests visiting the area on vacation may join our club as a Temporary Guest Member and have full flying privileges for up to 2-weeks.  If you are planning on visiting the area and would like a Temperary Guest Membership or if you would like to just visit to watch, please contact any of our club officers or email mcridner@comcast.net for info.
